The boat to Koh Samui was a mere 3 hours, perfect time to fit in a nice little nap! We made more friends on this ferry, this time a girl from Toronto, Canada and a guy from the UK. We again shared a cab with them, wandered the town, and settled at a little guest house for $10 per night (with A/C! Very important here)! A quick rinse off was quite necessary, as I am pretty sure that was the hottest/sweatiest I have ever been in my life. We met up with our friends and wandered around to find some dinner. After dinner we walked up and down the main strip checking out all there was to see, then made our way to the beach to have a long walk there as well. The beaches here were bigger and whiter than in Koh Tau, but it was not nearly as beautiful or paradise-y. Everything was extremely commercialized, lined with expensive resorts and hawkers trying to sell you the dumbest most useless shit. We all agreed that we should have never left Koh Tau, but it was too late, so we were determined to make the most of it! So off we were to the 7/11 to buy a couple cheap beers and we snuck into some lounge chairs on one of the resort beaches. We sat on the beach for the next 2 hours watching the stars, random fireworks, and luck lanterns floating into the sky. Not a bad night if you ask me!
The next day we had thought about renting scooters and exploring the island and a few of the waterfalls, but when we were awoken by a torrential downpour and thunderstorm, plans were canceled! So instead we went back to bed for a bit longer, went downstairs to the cafe to use the wifi and have breakfast, and then went back upstairs to watch a new movie we had just bought, The Beach. Fitting, seeing as though it was filmed partly in the exact location we were in! After our movie we showered and met up with Shivaun and Josh to go in search of a cheap seafood dinner. Ha like that exists on this tourist trap of an island! We ended up having delicious yellow curry instead, not a bad fallback! From there the party night commenced with $2.50 buckets all around, a random seedy pool tournament, a hunt for a bamboo tattoo artist (Josh needed his other butt cheek done!), and more street food! We called it a night at 4am and were up at 10 the next day to catch our bus/ferry to Phuket! 10 hour journey, here we go!!
