Yep, you're looking at the newest employee of Bob's Juice Bar! Now if I just stopped there, all you Americans would think I got a job at a strip club. However, I hate to disappoint, but I am a bit classier than that! Bob's Juice Bar is a small cafe that serves all natural, organic, healthy food and of course, juice. I discovered this restaurant, which is just around the corner from my house, when I first arrived in Paris. Every Wednesday I walk to the juice bar to pick up the organic fruit and vegetable basket that the family purchases. It has become mine and Alice's ritual, and we have made friends with the manager there in the meantime. Now with all the traveling I am doing, I find myself literally living payday to payday to save up for these vacations. I realized that I have so much free time to myself in the mornings and weekends, that I could easily pick up a few shifts somewhere just to make extra money. Both Ally and Jaimie work at a restaurant called Breakfast in America and while I know I could get hired there, I was a little intimidated waiting tables in such a fast-paced environment, having never worked in a restaurant before in my life! The atmosphere of Bob's Juice Bar, the idea behind the food, and the simplicity of it all was so appealing to me that I decided to inquire about working there a couple days a week. Plus it helps that the Juice Bar is only open from 8am to 3pm weekdays, and they are closed on weekends, meaning no requesting time off to go on a weekend trip! Unfortunately when I asked about job openings, they had just hired a bunch of new people, so I thought I was out of luck. However, after communicating with the owner a few more times, he decided he wanted to meet with me to talk about temporary catering positions for some events coming up. Today I went and met with the manager and within 5 minutes I was hired on full time! I start next week and will stay on for as long as I can or want to! I will be working at their other location, called Bob's Kitchen, and I will actually be in the kitchen, preparing and cooking food for this big event they're catering. (FYI the event is the Beaubourg Film Festival, and there's a rumor going around that they may cater the Cannes Film Festival as well!!!!) I couldn't be more excited for this opportunity because, for those of you who don't know, I have a dream of opening up a cafe back at home someday, and the idea I have in my head is essentially Bob's Juice Bar. This is great, hands-on experience for me to see if it is really something I want to pursue. I will also be improving my French, as many of the clientele are French-speaking...eeeek! But, needless to say, I am ecstatic for this opportunity, happy to get rid of my free time, and extremely ready to have more pocket change! Who knows, maybe I'll love it so much that I'll stay in Paris another year, or more...
